Rapid COVID-19 tests are available from Interior Health while supplies last.

Although an appointment is not required, you may have to wait.

According to IH, these tests are reserved for high-risk people with COVID-19 symptoms. Since the week of 27.12. at the municipal collection points.

Those who receive a rapid test take it home, follow the instructions that include getting a nasal swab, and the result will determine what to do next.

“If a rapid COVID-19 test shows a positive result, you must continue to self-isolate and follow the instructions included in the test package, including reporting a positive result to yourself,” said IH.

A negative result means COVID-19 has not been detected, but it is still possible to have the virus. Therefore, those doing an antigen test at home should self-isolate until their symptoms improve and they feel good enough to go back to normal activities.

A list of the municipal collection centers where rapid tests are available is available online at interiorhealth.ca under COVID-19 and Tests.

The health authority is tense at test sites. Although capacities have been increased, residents are reminded that tests are only available for those who are sick.

“If you don’t have symptoms, you don’t need a test, even if you’re in close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19, you won’t be given a test,” IH said.

Tests are also not recommended if you are fully vaccinated (two doses), have mild symptoms, and can manage your illness at home.

“Seven days in self-isolation. Notify your close contacts so they can monitor themselves for symptoms. “

A COVID-19 test is recommended if you have any of the following symptoms: fever or chills; To cough; Loss of smell or taste; or difficulty breathing.

And if you got any of the following symptoms for more than 24 hours without getting better: sore throat; Loss of appetite; Headache or body aches; extreme fatigue; Nausea or vomiting; Diarrhea.
