A fire lit near the Big White ski area on Monday is 0.1 acres.

“It’s classified as out of control. It’s a point fire. Crews were on site this morning and a helicopter fought the fire,” said Shaelee Stearns, officer of BC Wildfire.

The Derickson Lake fire that broke out on June 29th remains out of control and is estimated at 1,140 acres.

“We had 23 employees assisted by a helicopter and air tankers throughout the day,” added Stearns.

Another wildfire burns near the Big White ski area.

It was detonated by lightning on Monday southeast of Nevertouch Lake.

Helicopters were working to get it under control, and BC Wildfire Service staff were on their way into the area.

A group of three more fires began on June 29 north of the new fire. Only one thing, the Derickson Lake fire, remains out of control. It burned an estimated 1,140 acres.
