A group of bloggers from central Okanagan are hoping to start a movement to promote local and Canadian businesses amid the pandemic.

Staycation In the Nation, which launched in March 2020, promotes local business products, food and services, as well as job equality, said Jamie Muno, Founder and CEO.

Muno worked in the events industry, but with no events currently going on during the pandemic, she decided to turn around and try something new, she said.

Since the blog’s inception, they’ve also launched a clothing brand to help cover the cost of free advertising for businesses, she said. They have an office in Kelowna.

“We’re trying to build the economy,” she said.

Her blog features companies from across Canada, but bloggers will get around current travel restrictions by buying, shopping and endorsing local products, Muno said.

“We know restaurants are closed for dining, so we order takeaway and blog about it,” she said.

Staycation is also working to connect with Kelowna companies to offer workshops to promote inclusivity in the workplace, she said.

After the pandemic, she said there will continue to be a need to promote Canadian businesses and she hopes the movement will continue in the years to come.
