Metropolis Selects Builders for Former RCMP Kelowna Website

The City of Kelowna has selected a local developer to advance a project on the former RCMP site on Doyle Avenue.

RISE Commercial Developments, which recently completed The Shore on Lakeshore Road, will lease the land for 99 years before returning to town.

It will cost the company $ 7 million.

As part of the agreement, RISE will build a 6,000 square meter cultural space.

<p dir=A community square and an extension of the Artwalk to Doyle Avenue were also agreed.

That is expected to cost $ 4.3 million.

“At this stage, we are excited to post conceptual imagery to show how this space fulfills the overall vision of the area,” said Graham Hood, strategic land development manager.

“The further development of RISE on this website supports the dynamic of the cultural quarter and meets the need for more housing options in the city center as well as the provision of new rooms and amenities for the benefit of the entire community.”

<p dir=The city assumes that RISE will proceed with the approval process for the public development as early as September.

Late last year, the Kelowna Legacy Group advocated a different plan for the area, which the city appears to have ignored.

“We are excited to be working with the city to achieve the goals they have set for this location,” said Greg Appelt, President of RISE.

“The property has a unique connection to the cultural district and RISE is pleased to be selected to advance our proposal that includes exceptional public spaces and adds a significant number of modern rental suites in the heart of downtown.”
