Death at Kelowna Nursing Home amid Interior Health’s COVID numbers

91 new cases, outbreak ended in a unit at Kelowna General Hospital

One outbreak is over, but there has been another death in Kelowna.

Interior Health’s COVID-19 numbers for Wednesday April 7 report 91 new cases and one death at the Cottonwoods Care Center. The Kelowna Long Term Care Center has 28 cases: 25 residents and three employees.

Meanwhile, the outbreak in the 5B unit at Kelowna General Hospital is over.

“I would like to thank the KGH team for their efforts to contain this outbreak. We extend our condolences to the families of the two deceased patients, ”said Susan Brown, President and CEO of IH. “Our team continues to work hard to contain the outbreak to 4E.”

The outbreak in Unit 4E in KGH persists with two cases: a patient and a staff. There were a total of 10 cases in 5B, equally divided among staff and patients, and two deaths.

The outbreak also persists in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital level 3 surgical unit with 14 cases: 10 patients and four staff, with one death related to the outbreak.

The hospitals remain safe for appointments and emergency care. Patients are asked to continue with all planned procedures. Self-isolation or COVID-19 testing is not required after visiting any of the hospitals.
