Landslide in mission

On Wednesday afternoon, a large piece of garden fell on the street in Upper Mission.

The house is on Clarance Avenue, and the landslide partially covered Lakecrest Court.

It happened around 5:30 p.m., said Catherine Woodyard.

“I was backing up into my driveway and right across the street I suddenly saw a family’s back yard slide down the hill and completely cover the street,” said Woodyard.

She has just moved to Kelowna and was stunned when she saw a landslide right in front of her.

“I didn’t know what to do so I called the police thinking someone should know and they sent the city out.”

Woodyard said the sprinklers on the property had been on for some time, but there were also blasts in the area and she sometimes felt her house shake.

A Kelowna city official guarding the scene said a few people believed to be renters were in the house when the slide happened and the homeowner was alerted.

Part of Lakecrest Ct. was blocked by the slide, but some people were able to walk past the crime scene to get to their homes.
