Lakehouse cooking up plans

Lakehouse Home Store has taken another step in its expansion plans, asking the city to give approval for a liquor license on its second floor.
The downtown Kelowna store opened its second floor in June after more than a year of renovations, and the space included two kitchens that will be used for cooking classes.
Lakehouse says its cooking facility will be the first of its kind in downtown Kelowna and will attract locals, tourists and businesses to its cooking classes.
“The program will be led by one of the Okanagan’s highest ranking chefs and has been fully endorsed by the Kelowna Chefs Association,” Lakehouse wrote in his liquor license application to the city.
“The component of liquor ties into the educational aspects of learning how to pair with cooking along with providing a safe, social atmosphere as patrons enjoy their creations or watch chefs create dishes.”
The application goes on to claim that the cooking program will also showcase local wineries, breweries and spirits.
“At this time, there is no existing location in Kelowna where chef’s or vendors can host a large number of patrons while showcasing their trade using top-of-the-line culinary equipment,” the application stated. “We aim to meet this need while bringing people together to enjoy the culinary passion our team reflects.”
If the city gives support for the liquor licence, Lakehouse will then apply to the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch for the actual licence.
