Kelowna’s tallest office tower was crowned Wednesday morning during a ceremony.
Landmark 7 is just under 300 feet, or 23 stories, high. When it opens in May 2022, the building will house offices, retail stores, a fitness facility, a community event center and the largest indoor park in the Okanagan.
Six other landmark buildings are currently fully occupied. But with many people working from home due to COVID, this has slowed the rental process of the new building until recently.
“We have around 16 different businesses, 235 tenants in our existing buildings, and COVID has certainly slowed down the rental of our new tower, but this activity is very buoyant right now as we are past our last year and people are planning on approaching the end of COVID, “said Dallas Gray, manager of commercial leasing and marketing for the Stober Group.
Gray said construction went very smoothly as the building is being erected on time. The tower will be the tallest office tower between Vancouver and Calgary.
The top floor tenants of Landmark 7, the 23rd floor, will be Wellington-Altus Private Wealth. The company moved to Kelowna in September and is renting a space at Landmark 3 until the new space is ready next year.
Darren Morcom, vice president and portfolio manager for the company, says Kelowna has a lot to please.
“Kelowna is fast becoming one of the great affluence stories in Canada. There are so many people wanting to call Kelowna home and I think the Covid situation has sped that up. People see Kelowna as such a desirable community and they want to be here. That creates a lot of wealth that pulls into the community, and that’s where our company comes in, ”said Morcom.
The first landmark building was completed in 1996.
