Kelowna’s newest homicide sufferer has been recognized as Matthew Cholette, 27

(UPDATE: December 15 at 1:20 p.m.) – The Kelowna RCMP has released more information about the murder that took place in a Black Mountain townhouse complex on Sunday evening.

Officials responded to a report of a disruption in the 1700 block of Highway 33 at around 9:15 p.m. on Sunday next to Black Mountain Esso station. When they arrived they found a man dead in front of the residence in question.

<p>“We identify the deceased as Matthew Cholette, 27, of Kelowna,” says Cpl Jocelyn Noseworthy.</p>
<p>“This is done in the hope of moving our investigation forward.  We urge anyone who witnesses or has knowledge of this crime to report immediately and speak to key criminal investigators.  “</p>
<p>A 32-year-old woman was arrested at the scene but has since been released without charge as the investigation is ongoing.</p>

The RCMP says it was an isolated incident and no further risk to the public is believed.

Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to call the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.

(Original story: December 14th at 9:40 am) – The Kelowna RCMP made a difficult discovery in responding to a report of disruption this weekend.

The officers were called to a residence on the 1700 block of Highway 33 at around 9:15 p.m. Sunday.

When they got to the scene, they found a 27-year-old man dead in front of the townhouse.

“The investigation is in the early stages and the officers will be in the area indefinitely,” said Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy.

“This tragic incident appears to be inherently isolated and we do not believe it poses a threat to the general public.”

<p dir=Police detained an adult suspect at the time, but no charges were brought.

The RCMP’s primary crime in Kelowna has taken over the investigation, but the BC Coroners Service has also launched its own investigation into the death.

No further information is being released at this time, but the RCMP is encouraging anyone with information or additional witnesses to call 250-762-3300.
