There are plans to change the park configuration on one of Kelowna’s most popular beaches.
Boyce-Gyro Park, best known as Gyro Beach, will lose the parking lot at the south end of Lakeshore Road in order to expand the green space.
“The parking lot works quite well in its current form. The maximum is reached in about 28 percent of the cases. But for the remainder of the year it is about half full according to our parking numbers, ”says Lindsay Clements, park planner for the City of Kelowna.

The City of Kelowna will close Watt Road at the north end of the park to officially join the gravel parking lot that is being paved.
Part of the gravel lot is being sold to fund improvements to the park.
The portion of the property for sale is listed at $ 4.9 million.

Changes to the property are dependent on the sale but could be made as early as spring 2018, Clements said.
The city held a briefing in Boyce-Gyro on Thursday afternoon, attended by about 80 people to review plans.
