A sporting goods store in Kelowna that has been a pillar of the community for 42 years is getting a digital upgrade.
Fresh Air Kelowna has unveiled a new online presence that not only streamlines the digital customer journey but puts the story of the store and community front and centre.
“We’re so excited to launch the website. With an in-store focus on having a great customer experience and we wanted that to be reflected on the website as well,” says Ryan Olar, co-owner of Fresh Air Kelowna.
“On top of that, we’re creating community sections that really highlight our ambassadors, athletic programs, and local charities we partner with because, through those initiatives, the people and Kelowna are really at the heart of Fresh Air.”
The updated navigation and design make it easier than ever for customers to find the gear they need for the sports they love, as well as book bike or ski repair, fittings and rentals.
A sports store for the community
Fresh Air has been serving athletes of all levels in the Kelowna community for more than four decades. The family business started with Jim and Karen Bates in 1981 and, after their retirement, the baton was passed to long-time Fresh Air employees Amie and Ryan Olar and Marty Tymm.
The philosophy has always been to offer more than a sports store in Kelowna. When the store first opened the purpose was to contribute to the community and give back to Kelowna in a meaningful way.
The new website puts those stories at the reader’s fingertips—from supporting local charities like Mamas for Mamas to founding different races, clubs and fundraisers like YMCA Okanagan Cycle for Strong Kids event.
“We’re not just a retail store,” says founder Jim Bates when reflecting on Fresh Air Kelowna’s history. “We’re really proud. We’ve made a sincere contribution to the community.”
Nurturing athletic growth
Fresh Air also supports local athletes by creating space for them to grow their skills through clubs like Athena, the women’s cycling club founded by co-owner Amie Olar, and through organized runs.
Beyond structured events, the owners have created an environment where aspiring competitive athletes can honor their skills on the trails by providing a flexible, supportive work environment.
A former competitive snowboarder himself, Ryan Olar believes in the importance of giving staff members the opportunity to succeed and make their dreams a reality.
Fresh Air has brought Kelowna residents the gear and expertise needed to run, bike and ski their best for more than 40 years. It is also a proud community partner, playing a founding role in many races, clubs and charitable initiatives in Kelowna.
