Kelowna firefighters fought a smoky fire that damaged a two-story store yesterday.
Last night, November 27th, at around 9:30 p.m., Kelowna Fire Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call reporting smoke from a building on the 3000 block of Appaloosa Road. This emerges from a press release from the fire brigade.
Firefighters found smoke in a two-story store with a single suite below. An offensive fire attack was used and the fire was reportedly controlled from the inside.
The building suffered minor fire damage, but significant smoke damage on the upper level. The tenant on the lower level was allowed to re-enter the device, as there was no damage according to the clearance.
Four engines, a commando unit, an ambulance and 18 firefighters were on site to fight the fire together with the support of RCMP and the rescue service.
According to the press release, the cause of the fire was oily rags that were left in an open dumpster.
The Kelowna Fire Department is reminding residents that smoke and carbon monoxide alarms save lives. So remember to check the batteries regularly.
