Kelowna residents requested to steer clear of sports activities fields till they opened in April

The weather has been fantastic lately, but that doesn’t mean Kelowna’s sports fields are ready for the spring and summer seasons.

In fact, Kelowna’s sports fields remain closed and the city is asking residents to stay away from the grass until they are officially open.

Weather permitting, the ball diamonds are scheduled to open on Tuesday April 6th, while the rest of the fields should be ready for Monday April 12th.

“Sports fields have to be specially cared for after the colder winter months so that they are safe and ready to play,” explains a dismissal from the city.

“In preparation for spring, the city will test irrigation systems and cultivate quality lawns.”

Playing early on sports fields can not only create problems that result in delayed openings, but also create a risk of injury.

Kelowna’s larger parks like Ben Lee PArk, Rowcliffe Park, and City Park’s North Field are all open.
