Kelowna receives $ 100,000 from the province to provide assistance to Tolko workers and their families affected by the mill shutdown.
“The challenges facing inland forest communities are unprecedented, so we are getting these resources where they are most needed,” said Doug Donaldson, Minister for Forests, Land, Natural Resources and Rural Development, in a released today Press release. 23rd of December.
“Funds from these community support grants go directly to local governments as they have firsthand knowledge of what support is most needed in their communities.”
Support services and programs could include employment workshops and training, advisory services and support to food banks.
The Community Support Grants program offers communities permanent mill closures of up to $ 100,000. Communities with perpetual mill closures up to $ 75,000; and communities with permanent shift reductions of up to $ 50,000.
In addition to the money Kelowna receives, Clinton, Clearwater and Quesnel, and Kelowna will each receive $ 100,000. Fort St. James, Fort St. John, Mackenzie, 100 Mile House, and East Kootenay Area B (Jaffray) will each receive $ 75,000. Fraser Fort George Regional Ward, Area C (Isle Pierre), and Merritt will each receive $ 50,000.
