Kelowna bylaw officers needed help after receiving several reports of an out-of-control house party at Glenmore.
RCMP responded around 11:22 pm, Aug. 26, where officers arrested party-goers and used pepper spray in an attempt to get control of the crowd.
Six people were held until they were sober, with charges for assault on an officer, resisting arrest and mischief expected against at least one person, according to a Kelowna RCMP news release.
“This was a highly volatile call, the situation was frightening for the neighbors, and it resulted in multiple RCMP officers receiving minor injuries,” Const. Mike Della-Paolera said in a news release.
The release added that one officer was injured in an assault, but it’s unclear how the others were then injured.
Paramedics also responded to the party and treated people injured from oleoresin capsicum (pepper) spray at Glenmore home on the 200-block of Crossridge Crescent, according to the release.
“Every party has the potential to get out of hand when not monitored and controlled properly. Please speak to our young people about a safety plan when they are planning to use alcohol and drugs,” Della-Paolera said. “It is necessary for hosts to understand their legal and community obligations for hosting safe and respectful parties. Communication is vital, in particular, planning ahead of events where alcohol and drugs will be consumed.”
RCMP and bylaw officers are continuing to investigate and are looking to the public for witness accounts or video footage of the party.
