Kelowna RCMP is investigating racist graffiti left on local businesses

The incident occurred on Saturday, October 30th, at 5:30 am

Racist graffiti sprayed on a shop in Kelowna on Saturday morning October 30th is under investigation by the Kelowna RCMP.

The owner of a local shop on Glenmore Road reported that an unknown suspect had sprayed graffiti on his shop and sidewalk. The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. and the perpetrator was a man in a mask and dark clothing, according to the RCMP.

While the RCMP did not publish what was written, Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy said it was racist in nature.

“Hate crime and hate-motivated criminal activity have no place in our community and our officials are diligently working to identify this suspect,” she said in a press release.

Mayor Colin Basran also spoke out against the incident.

“This type of hateful vandalism is taken very seriously by the police and the City of Kelowna,” he said. “On behalf of the entire community, I express our dismay at this disgusting display of ignorance. This heinous act, however, gives us an opportunity to all stand together and show that a small-minded person with a container of spray paint does not represent our community. “
