The Kelowna RCMP has confirmed that they have identified the suspect who was involved in the hate incident that occurred on a city bus on Halloween.

The incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. on Route 8 Sunday night.

In a video posted on social media, the suspect begins to imitate a group of women who speak a different language. Then he starts calling the group terrorists.

“This is not a Hindu country. The people only speak English. They are terrorists,” he says.

The man wearing a black sweater then gets off at a bus stop before suddenly getting back on the bus and trying to defend himself against a man who pushes him off the bus.

“With the help of the public and media coverage, the person who made the hateful statements was identified by the police. Information about this person will not be released as it is an active criminal investigation and no charges have been brought, ”said Cpl. . Tammy Lobb on Wednesday.

“We understand that crime victims can find it difficult to come forward; However, we would like to speak to them as part of the investigation and encourage them to contact us, “added Lobb.

If you are a victim of a crime or trauma and require assistance, please email the Central Okanagan RCMP Victim Services or call them at 250-470-6242. The clerks are available Monday through Friday for calls and e-mails.
