A lost Kelowna hiker and his dog were brought to safety by Police Service Dog Fitz last week.

According to an RCMP publication, Kelowna RCMP received a report about a hiker who got lost in the June Springs Road area around 5 p.m. on Nov. 13.

After an extensive search of the area, the man and his dog were found unharmed by Fitz and his handler.

“The hiker, a 57-year-old Kelowna man, was not properly dressed for the weather and was delighted to be returned to his vehicle,” said Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy said in a press release.

“This incident ended happily, but it’s a timely reminder for anyone who wants to enjoy the great outdoors to take the right steps to ensure your safety.”
