A Banff couple sent a “worrying” letter to an MLA in Kelowna after they discovered someone had tampered with the wheel nuts on their vehicle while visiting Kelowna.

“You were in town from Banff to visit your son and grandchildren after a long separation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On their way home, this poor couple discovered – much to their horror – that someone had tampered with the lug nuts on their truck while they were parked in Kelowna, ”wrote Norm Letnick in a letter of Kelowna Lake Country MLA.

Without the lock nut on the wheels, this act could have resulted in a “horrific accident somewhere on the highway,” he said.

Letnick called the act “unacceptable” and while the intentions of the act may never be determined, she reminded him of the multiple instances in the past year where vehicles were wrecked by license plate drivers in Alberta to make themselves unwelcome to BC feel

Travel is opening up again and we must do our part to support the tourism sector in the Okanagan, he said.

If you see someone tampering with a vehicle or property that doesn’t belong to them, call the police, he said.

“And for anyone who ever travels, it’s never a bad idea to check on the nuts of your vehicle before heading home,” said Letnick.
