New gas bar on the agenda

One year after receiving the first permit, a property developer is now applying for a building permit to build a gas bar, car wash and grocery store at the end of Rutland Road near Reid’s Corner.

The application to the local council concerns only a portion of the property at 2100 Rutland Road North.

The planners indicate that future development is being considered for the north and south portions of the property bordering Old Vernon Road and Commercial Drive, respectively.

A separate building permit is required for this part of the property.

The application includes landscape plans including the planting of seven deciduous trees and a more densely planted area to screen the garage and recycling areas in the immediate vicinity of the main entrance to Rutland Road North.

The property was originally the location of residential houses and topsoil storage facilities. Except for a single family home in 2053 Rutland Court, it is mostly empty.

Before approving the building permit, the council must decide on changes to the rededication and future land use.
