Calling all homeowners

Landowners in Kelowna are reminded that if they are eligible, they must now apply for their home ownership grant through the provincial government.

The state took over management of the program at the beginning of the year.

“This is a significant change for all British Columbia property owners who have grown accustomed to applying through their community,” said Jackie Dueck, Kelowna City Controller.

“However, since the province takes over the application process for the home ownership grant, this means that the municipalities can no longer accept applications. Property owners must apply through the province by July 2nd. “

This change will be indicated in the 2021 property tax assessments, in the annual CityViews newsletter and via the city’s social media channels.

“Our cashiers also remind taxpayers of the change when they come to the town hall in person to pay their taxes,” said Dueck.

Eligible residents are encouraged to apply for the provincial home ownership grant to save on taxes: property owners are responsible for applying for the tax break each year as banks do not apply for their clients.
