The Kelowna Fire Department rushed to the location of a house fire on the 800 block of Hollydell Road this morning.
When the first officers arrived, they saw heavy flames and smoke coming from the back of the semi-detached house as residents evacuated the house.
“The flames had already spread to the roof of the carport, a large cedar hedge and an off-road vehicle parked in the carport,” says a message from the KFD.
“A line of scrimmage was used to control the fire from the outside while another team entered the inside.”
The fire was quickly put down, but the rear of the building sustained significant damage.
The interior of the house also suffered fire, water and smoke damage, making the house uninhabitable.
At the time of the fire, there were three people in the apartment.
All escaped, but one had a burned foot while another was smoke inhaled.
They were examined on site by paramedics and are now in the care of the emergency services.
