The Kelowna Fire Department had to act quickly early Friday morning to save a home in Kelowna.

A fire broke out in Block 700 on Bay Avenue at around 3:13 a.m. on Friday morning.

When the fire brigade arrived on site, they saw smoke, went into the back of the house and found a fire next to the bedroom in the basement that they could quickly put out.

“The fire was contained in the basement bedroom and closet. Unfortunately, the fire melted a water pipe that flooded the basement. At that time there was a resident in the house and could be safely evacuated, ”says Platoon Captain Steve Roshinsky.

The cause of the fire was declared unintentional.

The Kelowna Fire Department responded with 3 engines, a rescue unit and a commando unit with 17 people. RCMP, Fortis Electric and City Utilities were also on hand to help.
