An ESS reception center has been set up at the Kelowna Salvation Army.

The Kelowna Emergency Social Service has mobilized to help evacuees fleeing forest fires across inland.

His reception center opened at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Salvation Army on Sutherland Avenue. At 10 o’clock there was a line waiting

Salvation Army spokeswoman Patty Lou Bryant says up to 1,000 people will register over forest fires in Princeton, Ashcroft, Williams Lake and 100 Miles House over the next few days.

With weather forecast today to hamper fire fighting operations, more people could flee to safety.

Bryant says the center was established in Kelowna, in part due to the fact that many people have immigrated to the Okanagan from fire-ravaged areas but have not yet registered.

She urges these people to do this ASAP so that all the necessary paperwork can begin.

“We have snacks, water, air conditioning, a play area with toys, and nice and friendly people who guide people where they need to go,” said Bryant. “Otherwise we don’t need anything. We don’t need beds, clothes or anything like that at the moment.”
