Loyal Wooldridge announced his intention to throw his hat in the ring for the upcoming citizen election.
Wooldridge is the CEO of Loyal Hair and creator of the award-winning anti-bullying and empowerment campaign I Am Me. He announced his intentions at a private event in front of 200 people at Sandhill Wines on Wednesday evening.
“My mission is to nurture a full, full community that includes sustainable, responsible progress with financial responsibility and social support.”
Wooldridge said he has worked closely with nonprofits and business leaders and seen the struggles both sides face. “It is time for our fiscal excellence to be reconciled with a social conscience. I can use my experience to combine both a business spirit and a social heart, ”he said.
Wooldridge said he has researched the role, attended council meetings and spoken to community stakeholders, and there are overarching issues that keep coming to the fore. These are affordability and accessibility of housing, transportation solutions, tourism and jobs, as well as ensuring we have a full community that supports all of our residents, ”he said, adding that Kelowna is at a critical time.
“Our city is growing that is unlikely to slow anytime soon. We need progressive leaders who face challenges head on while promoting a full, complete community and a vibrant economy. “
Although he has announced his intention to apply, it is not yet possible to actually become a candidate as the nomination papers have not yet been published.
