KELOWNA- A local company is gaining international attention after being named the best of its kind.
The Lakehouse Home Store received the Global Retail Excellence Award at the International Home and Housewares Show in Chicago last week.
Ben and Sue Boschman’s mom and pop shop beat 25 other retailers from around the world in one of the five awards.
The couple say the win is the culmination of five years of hard work.
“I think what we set out to do here was extremely complex,” says Ben. “It wasn’t a walk in the park. So the whole thing is a real confirmation of our efforts over the past few years. “
The Boschmans received the award from a jury of merchandising experts from stores such as Nike, Burberry and Victoria’s Secret.

They say it was a big surprise.
“We were pretty stunned,” says Ben. “I think we somehow slipped into the circle of winners.”
The other winners come from Denmark, Malaysia, Holland and Great Britain.
