ALBERTA – A Kelowna real estate agent has suspended one of its agents for comments made in response to social media chatter about Alberta’s separatism.
Real estate agent Ben Houghton received death threats for calling the Albertans in response to people expressing their desire to separate from Canada.
“Alberta, such crying babies … don’t worry Alberta, your greed will soon be back in full swing,” he wrote on the social media post on Facebook.
In a joint statement, CENTURY 21 Assurance Realty apologized for the comments Houghton made in the post, saying they sympathize with the Albertans in the current business climate.
Houghton says the decision to suspend his license was made amicably and that he will take time out to reflect.
He also admitted that his comments on the social media post were insensitive and disrespectful and apologized for that.
The social media post triggered quite a backlash among the Albertans. One man threatened that no one in Alberta would buy houses in the Okanagan of Houghton.
