The Kelowna Art Gallery is seeking artist suggestions for the new ArtMart vending machine.

The vending machine will feature original work in a variety of mediums focused on artist’s community engagement, which can be purchased for $5 to $50.

“We encourage artists to think outside the box and dream big while creating something small,” said Christine May, curator at Kelowna Art Gallery.

“Our hope is that the ArtMart will provide a vehicle for artists to create something new, to excite and delight our visitors, and to fund local artists,” she said.

Art media found at the ArtMart include jewelry, pins, games, sculptural objects, stamps, and stickers.

Artists selected to participate in the program receive an honorarium, funds to support their work, and a commission on any sales of their work.

According to a press release from the Kelowna Art Gallery, the ArtMart was a successful concept by the Alternator Center for Contemporary Art.

“While we’ve had previous editions of the ArtMart here, this will be the first time we’ve hosted the vending machine at a neighboring location. We’re excited to partner with Kelowna Art Gallery and can’t wait to see what their members come up with,” said Alternator Artistic Director Lorna McParland.

Submissions from artists are welcome until December 3rd.

The ArtMart vending machine will be at the Kelowna Art Gallery from January 15th to April 15th, 2022.

The project was made possible with support from the Central Okanagan Foundation.
