Emergency crews are dealing with a seven-vehicle crash at Glenmore as police advise caution on the roads.
The crash has closed Begbie Road and has impacted surrounding streets. RCMP officers are at the scene diverting traffic and are asking drivers to avoid the area and stay home if possible.
Police say there have been several crashes today caused by slippery conditions, including one on Longhill Road that resulted in a fire. Another crash on Highway 97 near the airport caused delays this morning.
Hills are particularly slippery.
“Without good winter tires traveling the roads today will be very challenging and drivers need to use extreme caution,” said the Kelowna RCMP in a news release.
“If you absolutely need to drive keep your distance, brush the snow off your windows to give you clear vision and please slowdown giving yourself extra time to get to your destination.”
Snowfall totals in the valley bottom are expected to reach between 10 and 15 centimetres.
Travel advisories also remain in place for mountain passes in the area, with the Okanagan Connector expecting up to 20 cm.
