The response to a seriously injured Lake Country skier has been overwhelming.

After the organizers of a GoFundMe page for Colero originally asked for $ 100,000 to cover expenses for Brita Colero, who became paraplegic after a skiing accident at SilverStar Mountain Resort near Vernon on Jan. 9, organizers gave up A GoFundMe page for Colero announced that $ 213,841 had been raised as of Tuesday, February 9.

And now a new $ 250,000 goal has been set to get Brita home.

On February 9, the thing climbed to the top fundraiser in Canada, according to GoFundMe.

“Wow !! The response to bringing Brita home has been overwhelming and a HUGE blessing for Sandy and Brita,” said Tracey Dickie, the site’s organizer. “Thank you very much.”

Dickie said the cost of the Coleros will well exceed the original target of $ 100,000, and Dickie is keen to keep the momentum and donations flowing.

“Let’s set up their home (this is not an easy task changing entrances, bathrooms, kitchens), a van they can travel in, wheelchairs, and whatever is included in their initial set-up costs,” said Dickie.

“What a gift to see the church gather around this beautiful family and show them so much love and care. You are extremely grateful. “

Colero himself said, don’t feel bad if you can’t make a financial contribution, because “Giving your love and prayers is a great gift too.”

Dickie said the Coleros are “incredible people who love and care for others very well”.

Now he said it was up to the church to take care of them.

“The way that Brita and Sandy decided to respond to this accident with gratitude that Brita’s life was spared and that she has her whole mind is more than inspiring,” said Dickie.

“Her faith is strong and Brita’s sweet spirit continues to shine through despite the suffering she is experiencing.”

Doctors have told Brita and Sandy that their lives will be very expensive.

For one miracle, Brita will not be able to use her legs again, and while she can count on independence, she will require the use of specialized equipment and support services.
