MONDAY 9:30 a.m.
The Kelowna Fire Department says the mobile home was fully involved when they arrived at the 700 block on Beaver Lake Road at 7:30 p.m.
Lake Country Fire crews also participated.
“Fortunately, all residents were able to evacuate the house and the quick action of the crews on site quickly put out the fire to limit the damage to the individual mobile homes,” said Jarret Dais, captain of the Kelowna Fire train.
A nearby RV and hedge were slightly damaged, and one of the residents was treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation.
According to a GoFundMe campaign, the mobile home belonged to the Samm family, who lost everything in the fire.
“The Samms are a hardworking family with strong bonds in our community. They are part of the local hockey association and the brownies group in town. The family now has to pick up the bits and pieces of this devastating tragedy, ”said GoFundMe.
The fundraiser had already raised $ 4,500 on Monday morning.
UPDATED SUNDAY: 9:30 PM
Winfield Mobile Home Park residents gathered outside where RCMP had blocked part of the park as crews were studying the aftermath of a significant structural fire.
The fire originally looked like it would affect two houses, residents say, because of large cedar trees next to the building.
However, it was only one house near the far end of the park that went up in flames.
Residents said they did not hear an explosion or loud noises but were alerted by the “huge flames” and the arrival of fire trucks shortly afterwards.
At this point it is unclear how many residents were in the building at the time of the fire and if there were any injuries, but there are several ambulances on site.
The cause of the fire is also unknown at this point.
Castanet will update this story as more information becomes available.
