Sagittarius women gather to officially establish the women’s section of the Salmon Arm Fish & Game Club

Kickstart event held, open to first time shooters and experienced shooters

On the 22nd day of 2022, .22 caliber bullets were heard at a shooting range in Salmon Arm.

From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., women from Salmon Arm and beyond were welcomed to the Salmon Arm Fish & Game Club (SAFGC), which hosted its kickstart event for the women’s division.

Some of the participants were trying their hand at shooting for the first time, while others were experienced shooters. A hot chili lunch was served as well as hot chocolate and tea. Rifles, ammunition, hearing protection and a gun safety lesson were available free of charge to anyone wanting to test their marksmanship.

Jessica Klikach, SAFGC vice president for conservation and women’s division coach, said the event is being held to open the first official SAFGC season with a women’s division. One was launched in mid-2021 but formalized for 2022.

Learning opportunities for women are planned throughout the year in areas such as firearm safety, home working, archery and target shooting.

Klikach was very pleased with the participation of around 50 people who came and went during the four hour event. Almost 1,000 rounds of ammunition were fired from bolt-action rifles, a good indicator that people were enjoying themselves.

Those interested in joining or teaching the SAFGC Women’s Division can learn more on the club’s website and Facebook page.
