The grandfather of a Penticton teenager killed in Kelowna wants to remember his life and asks others to help with the endeavor.
“My grandson Elijah (Beauregard) was murdered on the streets of Kelowna BC. He was only 16 and had a lot to give, but his life was cut short, ”Garner Stone said on a GoFundMe.
“Eli spent most of his childhood in Penticton, he was a skateboarder and spent much of his time at the Penticton Skate Park paying homage to him.”
Stone said it would mean a lot to have a memorial bench, especially if it was before Christmas, since Eli was born on Christmas Eve.
“This has been a tough year for everyone, let’s end 2020 on a happy note,” he said.
Beauregard was fatally stabbed to death in downtown Kelowna on June 27, 2019, and an unnamed woman was taken into custody by the Kelowna RCMP Serious Crimes Unit on February 21. The BC prosecutor’s office charged manslaughter.
“The teenager was remanded until Monday, February 24, where she will appear in Kelowna Juvenile Court,” said Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy said in a press release earlier this year.
“Her name will not be published because she was a young person at the time of the crime and is protected under juvenile law.”
No further information can be released as the matter is now in court, added Noseworthy.
Eli had been living on Kelowna’s streets for about three months and was taking refuge in the youth home on Richter Street when he was ambushed.
Robyn Beauregard, Eli’s father, had been told that Eli was with some homeless friends who were hanging out near the BMO parking lot when he was stabbed to death.
At first he heard it was a superficial injury, but when he got to the hospital he found that Eli was in much worse shape. He had been put into a medically induced coma and his arm had to be amputated.
Shortly afterwards, he said, they learned that Eli had suffered extreme brain damage and would not make it.
