Interior Health is updating its handling of evacuations from long-term and nursing homes due to nearby forest fires.
As of Friday, residents have been relocated from nursing homes in several communities, including West Kelowna, Merritt, Armstrong, 100 Mile House and Lillooet.
The families are contacted directly to find out where the relatives are being taken.
From West Kelowna, senior citizens from the Brookhaven long-term care home are being transferred to lower mainland health agencies, including Fraser Health and Vancouver Coastal Health and Providence Health.
Smith Creek Village and Lakeview Lodge residents are mainly being relocated to local locations in the parish, but some are moving to the Lower Mainland.
The West Kelowna Urgent and Primary Care Center is currently still open.
From Armstrong, the residents of Pleasant Valley Manor went to the Lower Mainland.
People removed from facilities in Merritt, Lillooet and 100 Mile House will also be accommodated in Fraser, Vancouver Coastal and Providence.
