KELOWNA, BC – A residential complex under construction in Kelowna, BC was badly damaged in a violent early morning fire.

In a new phase of the Parklane townhouse complex on the north side of Kelowna, flames broke out on Tuesday.

Fires swept through the unfinished units while intense heat damaged nearby inhabited condominiums and forced evacuations.

One resident says his apartment facing the fire is now uninhabitable because the windows in the apartment were cracked and broken when he and his roommates fled.

Nothing is known about the injured, but the fire brigade is monitoring a construction crane located in the middle of the damaged complex.

An engineer was called in to assess stability while the crews poured water on the flames, which leapt more than a dozen meters into the air at the level of the fire.
