Firefighters are vigorous about placing out the campfire in Kelowna

Firefighters were called in to put out a campfire last night.

Kelowna Fire Department train captain John Kelly said the people who started the fire called 911 around 6 p.m. because high winds and lack of water prevented them from putting it out themselves.

The fire was on the 6000 block on Chute Lake Road.

Firefighters had to go to the fire because vehicle access was prohibited, Kelly explained.

“Wind-blown embers traveled away from the fire,” said Kelly.

“The environment was checked for extensions, none were found.”

Two engines, a water tender, a bush unit and a utility vehicle (UTV) with 12 crew members were dispatched.

“We’d like to remind everyone that campfires are NOT allowed in Kelowna City,” said Kelly.
