Another nursing home death

Two other inland residents recently died of COVID-19, including another resident of a long-term care home in Kelowna.

The BC Center for Disease Control announced two more COVID-19 deaths in the Interior Health area on Thursday, bringing the total number of deaths in the area to 184. COVID-19 deaths in the region have increased this month as new daily cases hit record levels.

One of the most recent deaths came from the David Lloyd Jones long-term care home in Kelowna, where five people have died from the virus since an outbreak was reported there on Aug. 12.

There are still 11 active outbreaks in long-term care and assisted living facilities inland, including six in Kelowna and one in West Kelowna.

The most recent outbreak was reported Wednesday at the Spring Valley Care Center in Kelowna, where three residents and one employee tested positive.

  • Cottonwoods Care Center in Kelowna – 19 residents and 11 employees (+1); three deaths
  • Hawthorn Park in Kelowna – one resident and four employees
  • David Lloyd Jones in Kelowna – 38 residents and 12 employees (+1); five deaths (+1)
  • Village at Mill Creek, Kelowna – two residents and one employee
  • Spring Valley Care Center in Kelowna – three residents and one employee
  • Nelson Jubilee Manor – two residents and three employees; two deaths
  • Kootenay Street Village in Cranbrook – one resident and two employees
  • Nicola Meadows in Merritt – four residents and three employees; a death
  • Hardy View Lodge in Grand Forks – One Resident and One Staff
