Police say a father will be charged with first degree murder in the death of his 11-year-old daughter after the girl’s body was found at his home in Brampton, Ontario.
According to Peel Regional Police, 41-year-old Roopesh Rajkumar was arrested near Orillia, Ontario late Thursday after an Amber Alert was issued to his daughter Riya.
Investigators said the girl should celebrate her birthday with her father, with whom she did not live.
It is said that the child’s mother went to the police on Thursday night after Rajkumar, her ex-boyfriend, made comments expressing his intention to harm himself and the girl.
According to police, Rajkumar is in police custody and is currently being treated in a trauma center for a medical problem.
Riya was a fifth grader at a school in Mississauga, Ontario and is remembered as a popular student.
There’s more to come.
