The Kelowna Owls are just one win away from their second provincial championship in five years.
In Langley, Kelowna defeated Handsworth of North Vancouver in the semi-finals on Friday night with 84:54 and rose to the championship game of the 4A basketball tournament of the High School Boys in BC.
On Saturday evening, starting at 8:15 p.m., the third-placed owls will compete against the high-ranking Burnaby South Rebels to gain the fame of the province.

Against Handsworth, the Owls defeated the Royals 49-26 in the second and third quarters to win the game, which was only four points so far.
Hunter Simson and Ajay Gill, each with 16 points, accelerated the owls’ attack.
In the other semifinals, Burnaby South prevailed against Vancouver College No. 4 69-52.
Both Kelowna and Burnaby South competed in the competition en route to the finals on Saturday. Each team has a plus-111-point difference in three games.
Previously, Kelowna defeated Frank Hurt 105-34 and Claremont 94-82, while Burnaby defeated South Mount Baker 95-41 and Oak Bay 89-49.

At last year’s tournament, Kelowna fell 91-86 against Lord Tweedsmuir in the final, while Burnaby South finished third. Lord Tweedsmuir defeated Burnaby in the semifinals 75-64.
Burnaby South won the tournament again in 2018 and, whether won or lost, will finish in the top three for the third year in a row.
Kelowna has also done well lately, having won bronze in 2015. Gold in 2016; plus silver in 2017 and 2019. The result of this weekend is the fifth medal of the owls in the last six seasons.
In terms of head-to-head encounters, the Rebels are 2-1 against the Owls this season after beating Kelowna 76-62 in November and 82-58 in February. Kelowna won 78-77 in December.

BOYS 3A
Vernon Panthers are satisfied with fourth place
The Vernon Panthers had to settle for fourth place in the 3A provincial championship.
On Friday, runner-up Vernon had a chance to return to the final for a second season in a row, but failed to sink third-placed GW Graham in a stabbing 50:49 semi-final defeat.

The Grizzlies scored a baseline jumper for the winner’s basket, while Vernon failed to hit his two subsequent possessions when he fell on GW Graham.

In the 2019 championship game, Vernon lost 46-44 to North Delta.
GW Graham will now face the high-ranking Duchess Park of Prince George in the gold medal game at 6:30 p.m. The Condors defeated Sir Charles Tupper No. 4 in the other semifinals with 61-43.

George Elliot is in 6th place
The Lake Country George Elliot Coyotes had the Okanagan’s highest score in the Boys 2A tournament with a sixth place.
On Saturday 14th place, George Elliot, lost in the game against St. Thomas Aquinas No. 9 for fifth and sixth place.

In another action, Princess Margaret of Penticton No. 8 fell 71-56 to Southridge No. 3, finishing 10th.
Vernon’s Clarence Fulton was also 11th on Saturday morning when the Maroons in 13th place defeated Prince George DP Todd in 7th place.

Kelowna Christian wins the bronze medal
In the 1A promotion, Kelowna Christian’s offer for BC Gold fell short of second, but the squad got away with a top 3 result.
After Kelowna Christian fell 72-34 against third-placed Unity Christian of Chilliwack in the semifinals on Friday, she recovered on Saturday and defeated Fernie 88-56 in the bronze medal game.

Indy Hallett approached Kelowna Christian with 39 points and Jake Sabbagh with 26 points when the Okanagan team hit Fernie with an early knockout and led 23-5 after the first quarter.

Sabbagh led Kelowna Christian against Unity Christian with 14 points, 19 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals.
The game ended in the first few minutes, Kelowna rose at 8:44 am at three, but then Unity Christian pulled back and never looked back. After the first quarter he was leading 24-13.
Also on Friday, Grand Forks fell between 83 and 81 to 14th place from Deer Lake.
In the gold medal game, it will be a pure Chilliwack affair with Unity Christian playing No. 1 at the Highroad Christian Academy.

Kelowna Christian plays Grand Forks for bronze
In Kelowna on Friday evening, hopes of a gold medal game with two regional teams vanished.
In the semifinals, tournament organizer Kelowna Christian fell 67:59 against Langley’s Credo Christian No. 1, while Grand Forks No. 6 lost 69:33 to Unity Christian.
