The Kelowna Fire Department’s swift response resulted in the rescue of a local company on Friday.

According to train captain Kelly Stephens, fire fighters received a call at 9:34 p.m. about smoke coming from a building in the 200 block of the Arabischer Hof. Upon arrival, the crews confirmed the smoke in a two story shop with a single suite below.

After an offensive attack, KFD was able to control the fire from the inside.

The building was only slightly damaged by smoke and fire on the upper floor. After a brief inspection, the tenant was allowed to return to the lower suite as it had not been damaged.

A total of four engines, a command unit, a rescue and 18 employees were on site to fight the fire. They were supported by the RCMP and Emergency Health Services.

KFD confirmed that the cause of the fire was oily rags that were left in an open container.
