Dyas made the announcement at 11:30 am in Roxby Square in Rutland.

“Today is a turning point for me. The time has come for me and my family as my company can now enable me to take on this new role, ”Dyas said in a press release. “As director of the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce for the past eight years and President for the past two years, I have an in-depth understanding of the current problems facing our community and a proven track record of solving difficult problems.”

Dyas said stronger leadership was needed at town hall to make better progress on important issues.

“I think we can do better. I believe that by participating in this election there will be more serious discussions on the main issues. The community will be a benefactor as the issues are treated with much deeper discussion and community input. “

The five main civic items on Dyas’ list are:

  • Financial responsibility for city spending and tax increases
  • Citizen security and homelessness in the city center
  • Transport and infrastructure
  • Water management
  • Sustainable, controlled growth.

The news means that five people are now running for mayor’s office: incumbent Colin Basran and candidates Josh A. Hoggan, Bobby Kennedy and Bob Schewe.

Dyas’ press release added that he will be traveling to Quebec City today with his son Lyndon to receive a group insurance plan from the Chamber of Commerce. It is noteworthy, however, that he will attend the wedding of a Kelowna athlete in Montreal.
