Downtown Kelowna got a little sweeter on Saturday with the opening of the Dolicious Donuts Express at Towne Center Mall.
The locally owned donut shop opened its main location in West Kelowna last year.
“We have customers coming to Kamloops from Penticton and they all said we should come to Kelowna, so we said ‘OK’,” said owner Jeanne Kaminski.
“Towne Center Mall is the perfect place for us as it is in the center of downtown, which is where many businesses are located.”
The donuts will continue to be produced in West Kelowna.
“All of them are handmade and hand-cut,” says Kaminski. “We use a 40 year old recipe with no additives or preservatives.”
The grand opening also unveiled the world’s largest apple fritters – weighing a whopping 14.13 pounds.
“We hardly fit in the deep fryer,” says owner Torsten Kaminski.
The large handmade donut took about seven hours to make.
The event also served as a fundraiser for Inspire Health, a nonprofit cancer therapy
society.
