Donate clothes to these in want in Kelowna

Kelowna has seen bitter weather the past few days and without proper winter clothing finding warmth while walking around town can be a challenge, to say the least.

The Inn from the Cold charity is getting ready for the winter season with tons of winter boots, hats, gloves, coats, and more. Their Free Store service provides free winter clothing to citizens who need it most to weather the bitter winds of winter.

“With the recent cold temperatures, the demand for our free store services has increased,” said Val Mucllough, IFTC Volunteer Free Store Manager. “Lots of people use our free shop to get blankets and warm clothes. Some have expressed that they will stay outside and wait for our shelter to open. “

The free store is open all year round and offers residents light clothing in summer and thick socks, jackets and boots in winter.

In addition to winter clothing, the free store also offers work clothing, hygiene products, feminine hygiene products, bed linen and sleeping bags.

The volunteer service relies on donations and fundraising opportunities to meet the needs of everyone who uses the Free Store.

Recently, however, the organization has received additional winter clothing donations; The number of people using the free store service is increasing and so Inn From the Cold is always looking for posts.

“At this particular time of year, we ask for gloves, warm socks, and any type of footwear that is good for the winter weather,” said Wayne Golling, outreach case worker at Inn From the Cold.

Open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., anyone wishing to donate winter clothing can stop by the store on 1829 Chandler Street. The free store is accessible practically at any time for anyone who needs winter clothing.

In addition, Inn From the Cold operates a winter cabin that is now open at 1157 Sutherland Avenue from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m.
