Recently, five local schools were exposed to COVID-19.

On Sunday, the Central Okanagan School District announced COVID-19 cases at Canyon Falls Middle School and Okanagan Mission Secondary School in Kelowna, Mar Jok Elementary and Mount Boucherie Secondary in West Kelowna, and Oyama Traditional School.

“All individuals are self-isolating at home with the assistance of local health teams. Interior Health directly tracks anyone who may be exposed to a confirmed case through contact tracing,” Supt said. Kevin Kaardal said in a press release.

Canyon Falls Middle School parents received a notice from Interior Health on Saturday informing them that a person who later tested positive for the virus had attended school on December 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

As a result, two cohorts of students at the school had to self-isolate by the end of the day on December 18.

It is unclear when the COVID-positive people last attended the other schools listed.

The new potential exposure comes after Interior Health announced that several members of the middle school community tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month. No outbreak was reported at the school.

There are currently more than 12,000 people across the province who are self-isolating after coming into contact with a COVID positive person.
