Shippers Supply is a 100 percent Canadian-owned privately owned company founded in 1975. Headquartered in Edmonton and with nine locations across Western Canada, the company is both a manufacturer and distributor of high quality packaging materials and storage equipment. The shipper has just about anything you would use in your shipping, warehouse, and packaging departments. Some of the products the company makes and sells include corrugated boxes, labels, tags, printed packaging tape, pallet wrappers, loosely filled peanuts, label printers, price guns, stencil cutters and inks, hazardous goods labels, print cards, storage bins, pallet rack and shelves. Kudos to Luke Stack and the Society of Hope for receiving a prestigious provincial award in recognition of their continued support for the Canadian Armed Forces reserves. Society of Hope Associate Jesse Lawrence, a reservist with 30 Signals Regiment in Kelowna, nominated his employer for an award in the Best Practices in Employer Support, Small Organization category. The Society of Hope is a tremendous supporter of reservists and gives them regular free time to attend unit drills, career courses, and home operations. The company is also increasing the reservists’ pay so that they are not compromised by their service. The award will be officially awarded at a ceremony in Vancouver.

Jolene Laing is the new Store Manager for ScotiaMcLeod on Dixon Ave. 600-1620 at Landmark 5. Jolene has been in the investment advisory industry since 1999 and joined ScotiaMcLeod in 2005. He was the branch manager of the Kelowna, Salmon Arm, and Kamloops offices. Jolene continues to co-manage the White Rock office with the Kelowna office and is a director of Scotia Wealth Management.

Pardeep Khrod has returned inside (she grew up in Golden) to take on the new role of inside executive director for the BC Cancer Foundation. Pardeep was previously Senior Development Officer at BCIT. To join her is Carmen Weldwho has taken on the new role of development officer after years as an editor and journalist for digital news in the Okanagan at Black Press Media (Kelowna Capital News) and Castanet. Congratulations

Congratulations to Ed Dickins for the award of the Medal of Sovereignty for volunteers. This medal is an official Canadian award and recognizes the exceptional volunteer work of individuals from across the country or abroad in a variety of fields. It is an official award from the Crown that honors living Canadians. The Honorary Chancellery, which is part of the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General, administers the program.

The Kelowna Curling Club under the direction of the General Manager Jock tires was recognized with the Tourism Kelowna Sport Hosting Award for excellence in hosting the 2018 Winn Rentals Mixed Curling World Championships from October 13-20, 2018 as the premier event. Event co-chairs were Brendan Willisby Raymond James and Jeff Richards, general manager of Sunset Ranch. Canada won the gold and defeated Spain in the final. The championship was the fourth edition of the event, but the first time outside of Europe. 140 of the world’s best hair curlers represented 35 international teams.

Okanagan College business students boast bronze after finishing third in the Scotiabank Canadian Case Challenge out of 30 student teams. The competition, held at Vanier College in Montreal, combines business strategy, marketing and management into one of the most challenging college competitions in the country. Blair Baldwin, professor at the Okanagan School of Business, and Mark Ziebarth trained the team.
