Construction of the long awaited South Perimeter Road in Kelowna begins

The upper mission will soon be accessible via southeast Kelowna

A new access road to the Upper Mission neighborhoods in Kelowna will be available shortly. Work is currently underway on the South Perimeter Road.

The new 2.9 kilometer road will extend Gordon Road and connect the new extension to Stewart Road West, making the Upper Mission accessible via Southeast Kelowna. The link is intended to be a two-lane road with paved shoulders for people who travel by foot or bike.

“The approval process is nearing completion and we are mobilizing to start construction,” said Johannes Säufferer, head of the real estate department for the city of Kelowna. “This week the equipment will be brought to the site and the crews will prepare the land for the road to be built. The new connection is expected to open next summer. “

The project was originally supposed to be completed later in the decade, but The Ponds neighborhood developers sped it up and covered the $ 10.8 million cost of the road. These costs will be paid back to Ponds Ventures Inc. through Development Cost Charges (DCC) levied in the Southwest Mission area.
