The national job cuts undertaken by Bell Media have arrived close to home.

Castanet has learned that Kelowna employees have been affected by the cuts.

An official response from Bell’s communications director Marc Choma stated: “There are other role changes, including some departures, which reflect the streamlined operating structure of Bell Media.”

“As the media industry evolves, we focus on investing in new content and technology while making sure our company is as agile, efficient and easy to operate as possible.”

At this point, there doesn’t appear to be any local on-air staff affected by the cuts.

According to Choma, headcount has been cut across the country. According to a report by Cartt.ca, 210 jobs will be cut in Toronto alone.

The changes come as Bell Media gives greater priority to growing its streaming platforms.
