Crews called to late-night fire at downtown Kelowna business

The Kelowna Fire Department responded to a minor fire at a downtown business last Thursday night.

The general fire alarm for the business in the 300 block of Bernard Avenue came in around 10:30 pm.

It was followed by a neighboring business reporting an audible alarm and light haze of smoke inside their building.

Crews arrived on site and found moderate visible smoke inside the building. They quickly gained access and extinguished the small blaze.

“Fire damage was contained to the area of origin,” said Platoon Capt. John Kelly. “There was minor structural damage to an interior wall and some smoke damage to the interior of the building.”

Kelly said initial findings indicate that the fire was electrical in nature, but investigators will be working to confirm that today.
