While COVID-19 continues to breach a nursing home in Oliver, a similarly troubling situation has emerged in West Kelowna.

Interior Health has reported an outbreak of COVID-19 at the Heritage Retirement Residence, which is just off Highway 97 near Elliott Road.

The health department says six residents and four employees have tested positive for the virus.

<p dir=“Anyone who is in close contact with these people is in self-isolation and is monitoring symptoms,” said an IH press release.

“Interior Health and operator Verve Senior Living will continue to monitor the situation while taking additional measures to control and prevent infections.”

These measures include:

  • Monitor all residents for respiratory symptoms and perform COVID-19 tests on those with COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Improved cleaning protocols and COVID-19 visitor guidelines.

As is usually the case, all visits to the entire site have been temporarily halted as health officials try to contain the outbreak.
