Health officials are reporting four new deaths related to COVID-19 in the Interior Health area after the weekend, all of which are related to outbreaks in senior homes.
These new deaths bring the number to 50 since the pandemic began.
Another fatality occurred at Sunnybank in Oliver, another at Heritage Retirement Residence in West Kelowna, and two deaths at Noric House in Vernon.
Susan Brown, President and CEO of Interior Health, said how sad the health agency was to report the deaths on Monday.
“I would like to express our condolences to the families, carers and loved ones of these four people, who all died in long-term care. We are in our most difficult phase of this pandemic, but hope is emerging as we continue to introduce vaccines every day. Now is the time to focus on the precautionary measures that are limiting the spread of this challenging virus. “
Sunnybank Long Term Care in Oliver currently has 34 COVID-19 cases with 26 residents and eight employees, with two deaths related to this outbreak.
There are 46 cases at the Heritage Retirement Residence in West Kelowna involving 41 residents and five employees. Three deaths are associated with this outbreak.
Noric House in Vernon’s long-term care currently has 47 cases involving 26 residents and 21 staff. Two deaths are associated with this outbreak.
As of Monday, there are 1,058 active cases in the health authority.
Across the province there were 31 additional deaths related to COVID-19 in the three days, and on Monday there were 343 coronavirus patients in hospital and 68 in intensive care.
